I often chat with clients as they lay on the treatment table and there is a common theme that plays out.
A lady is pregnant in a high-powered career, she has her baby, then is looking at going back to work and realises how inflexible the arrangement is and how it’s going to negatively impact on her family. She takes a more junior role, or leaves the company as the culture around her isn’t in sync with how today’s families operate.
March 8 marks International Women’s Day 2016 and the theme is “commit to take action to ensure gender parity”, sooner rather than later. The current figures are stark – they say it’s going to take another 117 years to achieve it! That is a long time. Can we wait that long? I don’t think so.
It’s important for women and men to be considered fairly for jobs – however, the corporate market really needs to change. The current structure is based on early last-century ideals and culture and things have changed a lot since then. Back then women didn’t work and men purely brought in the cash. It was completely different.
How will you mark International Women’s Day in 2016? Head to the website to find out how you can celebrate (attend an event or publicise your own), make a pledge and take action to accelerate gender parity this year on March 8.
