How to boost your immune system in the wake of Covid-19

Here are some general guidelines on what you can do on the home front:

Vitamin and herbal supplements: Daily doses of good quality Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin D and mushroom extracts will boost your immunity. It’s always best to check with your practitioner on the combination or supplements and correct dosage, as they do differ, depending on your health situation.

Zinc and your health - sources of Zinc

Diet: Having a balanced diet filled with good quality fruit and vegetables and meat if you aren’t vegetarian. Try to get organic when you can and good quality pesticide free vegetables. Chicken soup is good for energy boosting, immune and gut health. Eating pre-biotic foods to help keep your gut health strong could be helpful. Some examples of these foods include garlic, onions, leeks and bananas. Do your best to keep off the cheeky sugary foods, especially ice-cream!

Sunlight provides Vitamin D which is important in maintaining good immune health. Having a good dose of sunlight every day will help keep your system and cells strong. Going into the cooler months means a supplement could be useful.

Hygiene tips: Wash your hands regularly, minimally touch your face and if you need to sneeze, cover your nose or sneeze into your arm to minimise germs being spread. If you come into contact with surfaces when out, take those clothes off when you come inside and wash them. Keep up the social distancing until we are told otherwise.

Meditation is always an important tool for overall well-being. A calm mind that is relaxed translates to a body that works better on all levels. This is often a lifestyle tip we talk about in sessions. Some of our favourite apps that help with this are Calm and Smiling Mind.

Sleep hygiene: Stick to a regular sleep regime. Get to bed early enough, keeping the screens off close to bedtime.

Exercise: During these months ahead, try to keep moving and get outside to exercise once a day – get your vitamin D sunshine, fresh air and movement all at once.
