Beauty was never about looking younger

Lately, I’ve found myself completely captivated by Pamela Anderson.

If you’d told me twenty years ago that Pamela Anderson would become one of my greatest inspirations, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.

Yet here we are.

She regularly walks the red carpet without makeup. She spends her days gardening, cooking and living a slower, quieter life. There is something incredibly refreshing about watching a woman stop performing beauty and simply embody it.

As a practitioner of Chinese medicine, I can’t help but see this through a different lens.

Chinese medicine has never measured beauty by the absence of wrinkles. It looks for something much deeper. The brightness in someone’s eyes. The warmth in their complexion. The way they move through the world. Their vitality. Their spirit. Their Shen.

To me, Pamela looks more beautiful today than she ever has. Not because she looks younger, but because she looks more at peace and she’s comfortable with herself.

Chinese medicine teaches that we all inherit a precious reserve of life force called Jing. It is the essence that supports our growth, fertility and healthy ageing. Every season of chronic stress, every night we burn the candle at both ends and every time we ignore our body’s need for rest, we draw from that reserve. Every time we nourish ourselves, honour our limits, spend time in nature and slow down, we help preserve it.

This is why I care so deeply about helping women look after themselves during their fertile years. Fertility isn’t simply about hormones or ovulation. In Chinese medicine, it’s also about having enough Jing to create and sustain new life. Looking after yourself today isn’t an indulgence; it’s an investment in the family you may hope to build tomorrow.

Perhaps that’s why Pamela Anderson has become such a beacon for so many women. She reminds us that beauty doesn’t come from trying to look twenty-five forever. It comes from living in a way that allows your spirit to shine.

And that kind of beauty doesn’t fade with age. If anything, it grows.
