Pregnancy

1st Trimester

First trimester can be so tough. You may not be showing yet but you may be extremely tired, anxious, feel like you have a constant hangover, or like you can’t even look at food or you might vomit. That’s a sure sign that you need to take some time to care for yourself. We can assess what’s normal and what can be improved. If you’re feeling completely exhausted or sick, then pregnancy acupuncture can help put the bliss back in your pregnancy.

2nd Trimester

This is supposed to be your glow phase… but it doesn’t always feel like that, right?! We are here to help. It’s our job to improve your health so that when it comes time to birth, you are ready with energy and stamina for that next beautiful phase of your life. We can assist with pregnancy acupuncture for sore backs, aching hips, painful necks, sciatica, carpal tunnel, headaches and much more.

3rd Trimester

Well done, you’re almost there, you’re on the home stretch.

We can help.

Many women choose to come for pregnancy acupuncture to help prepare them for birth. We have supported thousands of women throughout their pregnancy to help them feel as ready as possible for birth and motherhood.

If you haven’t already, it’s now time to check out our Acupressure For Birth video on our homepage.

Acupuncture for Birth Preparation

At what stage of my pregnancy should I come in for acupuncture?

Commonly, we begin to help your body prepare for birth from 36 weeks. If there are other issues, such as back pain, high blood pressure, insomnia etc we recommend coming in earlier for pregnancy acupuncture.

If there’s a need for a medical induction, we ideally start treatment a few weeks prior but it’s never too late to get some support!

Is it purely acupuncture, or do you use a combo of techniques?

We practice pregnancy acupuncture primarily, however may also use gua sha or cupping. Your practitioner will discuss what is best for you and will offer advice tailored to your needs. Clients receive acupressure points, recipes, diet advice where applicable, and a good dose of birthing wisdom in alliance with the birth you’re hoping for. We completely support your choices and are here to assist you at your special time. Our services are to be used in addition to the support you are receiving from your primary health care provider, your OB, midwife or Shared Care GP.

How many pregnancy acupuncture sessions would I need?

We would usually see you weekly from 36 weeks, then twice weekly once you reach your due date.

How long are the acupuncture sessions, and how can I expect to feel during them?

The Acupuncture For Birth sessions are 50 minutes. During the acupuncture treatment, we may offer you a guided meditation to do while on the table to help you prepare for the birth. We are told it’s a calming, soothing and deeply relaxing experience.

How may acupuncture for birth preparation help?

Ensuring that you are as balanced as you can be in terms of your energy levels, sleep, emotions, alignment of your hips, the position of your baby and your bowels is important when you’re a few weeks out from your due date.

Energy Levels and Sleep

You have a huge task ahead of you! There is a reason people say birth is like running a marathon. It helps to go into labour feeling strong and ready for endurance. Getting good quality sleep in the lead-up is crucial, as is making sure you have enough energy for the task ahead. Pregnancy acupuncture may help to improve sleep. After the marathon of birth is over, you’ll need to draw upon more energy to feed and care for that little baby, and there are many sleepless nights ahead.

Calming

Anxiety, stress and tension can all work against those wonderful birthing hormones, particularly the love hormone – oxytocin. When you’re birthing, it’s important you have lots of oxytocin and low levels of adrenalin. Acupuncture for birth preparation may help to regulate your nervous system and may help you feel calmer before the birth.

Hip/back alignment and optimal positioning of your baby

The way your hips and back are aligned plays a role in how comfortably your baby can move into the optimal position for birth. Also, once labour starts, your hips and back have a lot of work to do! Acupuncture for birth preparation may help to relax muscles and tendons.

The lead-up to Birth, pre-labour and labour

The more in balance you are and the more you are producing good levels of oxytocin, the smoother and less painful your birth will be.

Post Partum

From feeling low, to sweating beyond three weeks postpartum, to having lactation issues, we can be of assistance to help you re-balance once you’ve had your baby. There are so many things that come up at this time and it’s hard to know what is normal. We can help you figure that out, reduce your stress, improve your sleep and relax your muscles.

Often there are issues with bubba too, so helping those will help you to get a better night’s sleep and we can help with those too. Just check out our section on Children’s Health.

Contact us via email or book an online telehealth consultation. We are both mothers and have had young children. We get it and are here to support you.

If you’re in need of lactation support and guidance, we highly recommend Bondi local, certified lactation consultant Cara Suttner.
