Acupressure to Establish Labour and Reduce Nausea

Doula Jodie Moss graduated from our Ancient Secrets for Better Bumps, Births and Babies acupressure course. In mid 2015, she sent us this fantastic birth story in which she used acupressure to establish labour and reduce nausea in her birthing client.

How a doula used acupressure to establish labour and reduce nausea

I did this course last year and have been loving the techniques. Mrs A was gravida two and para zero and her baby was posterior. Her waters broke early morning and she had some meconium, but no contractions.

We went to hospital to be checked, and her team were great. They gave her time but wanted regular monitoring. I used the SP-6 as well as BL-60 and BL-67.

She responded within 10 minutes in with surges. I alternated with these points throughout the morning. Her doctors decided to start Syntocinon, but were fascinated by her response to the acupressure. They were even asking me to show them the points.

By mid-afternoon her labour was well established, regular contractions and baby was slowly descending, I continued to use the inner ankle SP-6 point and outer ankle point BL-60 to help baby. Near transition she was extremely nauseated, so I used the wrist point PC-6.

Within five minutes the nausea had settled and she was able to control her breathing and focus. After her precious baby was born, I had the doctor come up and talk to me and ask me where I learned the techniques and said he wanted to sign up!
