Hi, I’m Sue Kyle and I am a fully qualified shiatsu therapist. I am a mother of 2 beautiful, healthy girls, aged 7 and 16.
Shiatsu is a form of healing through touch originally developed thousands of years ago in Japan. Shiatsu shares much of its background theory with acupuncture and has been referred to as acupuncture without needles. Like acupuncture, Shiatsu stimulates the body’s vital energy (known as ki). Instead of needles, pressure is applied to various parts of the body; stretches, rocking movements and some massage movements are used. Shiatsu is calm and relaxing in nature, yet dynamic in effect; the body begins to re-adjust itself and healing can take place.
Structural problems such as bad necks, backs and poor posture can benefit from shiatsu, as well as more chronic conditions like menstrual difficulties, skin disorders, digestive problems and migraines. The treatment is conducted on a futon mattress on the floor and the client is covered by a sheet or wears loose clothing.
Sue specializes in pregnancy and postnatal care for the mother. Shiatsu helps to enhance the positive aspects of pregnancy and the mother’s connection with the baby and her changing body and emotions. Shiatsu can bring a much needed boost in energy as well as alleviating some of the more common discomforts of pregnancy. Sore backs, necks, shoulders and leg cramps can be addressed and with regular treatment can bring long lasting relief. Sue has had great success in bringing on labour with shiatsu and also in supporting the mother’s energy during the important postnatal period.
Shiatsu therapy is most beneficial during any time of change in our lives and partners too can benefit from this deeply satisfying therapy. By taking the time to pay attention to their bodies partners can be supported in addressing any anxiety or hesitancy associated with this big shift in their lives.
Sue is committed to supporting the whole spectrum of female health from the experience of a young girl’s menarche through to the changes or difficulties with the menstrual cycle, the blossoming of pregnancy and the shift through menopause and beyond.
“I believe that a woman’s relationship with her menstrual cycle is the
key to unlocking peace, energy and passion in herself. As women we hold immense
power and potential in our bodies and cycles, it is my mission to provide a safe and
supportive place to assist women to access this power and bring it more fully into
their lives; more energy, more nourishment and greater clarity.”
Sue is experienced in all general health conditions and welcomes enquiries from anyone who feels that shiatsu might assist them.
Sue has over 10 years experience practicing shiatsu and yoga. She teaches Hath Yoga in the Anusara tradition and is also a leader on Pathways into Womanhood camps; a contemporary rites of passage experience for teenage girls and their mothers.
